Who We Are

We are a community of lawyers. We are justice defenders, activists and organizers, educators, public interest lawyers, law students, and people with a passion for justice. We tackle a wide range of justice issues, from gender equality to land rights, housing discrimination, statelessness, pretrial detention, and much more. We live and work in solidarity with individuals, organisations and communities facing injustice. While we come from different backgrounds, we are united by a common approach – a process known as legal empowerment. Through this process, we help communities to know, use, and shape the law, so that the people most impacted by injustice can exercise their rights and take part in decisions that affect their lives.

Across the globe, our members are working at the frontlines of struggles for justice, building power in communities where injustice and environmental destruction are concentrated. When we come together, each from our own context, we combine our knowledge and ideas and work as a united movement. As a collective, we gain the ability to unlock solutions to the biggest justice problems and build a world where justice for all is a reality. We welcome complaints of human rights violations from individuals, corporate bodies, NGOs, and any person whose rights have been infringed upon either by government agencies, law enforcement agents, individuals or corporate bodies. We offer free legal services to the indigent, vulnerable persons and any person whose rights have been, is being or is likely to be infringed upon. We equally carry out advocacy, sensitizing people of their Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights, as well as their political, social and economic rights.

Our Founder's Story

David D. Muhammed Esq

Founder & Executive Director, Sagelawyers Humanitarian Foundation

David D. Muhammed Esq is a seasoned legal practitioner with nearly two decades of experience in Private Legal Practice and in the Nigerian legal system. He is the Founder and Lead Partner at Lawhaven Solicitors and Advocates, a reputable law firm based in Abuja Nigeria. As a Notary Public of Nigeria, he has built a distinguished career advocating for justice, human rights, and equitable legal access for all.

In addition to his legal practice, D. D. Muhammed as he is fondly called by his colleagues, is the Founder and Lead Steward of Gracebreed Believers Assembly, a faith-based community in Abuja dedicated to spiritual growth and societal transformation.

His deep commitment to justice stems from personal experiences, having faced significant injustice as an orphan in Nigeria. This background fuels his passion for creating an egalitarian society where no one is denied legal representation due to their economic status.

As the Founder and Executive Director of Sagelawyers Humanitarian Foundation, Barrister Muhammed leads a team of dedicated lawyers in providing pro bono legal services to indigent individuals and marginalized communities, all over Nigeria. Under his leadership, the foundation prioritizes cases involving human rights violations, ensuring that the most vulnerable members of society receive the justice they deserve.

Driven by a vision of equal access to justice, D. D. Muhammed continues to champion legal reforms and strategic interventions that empower underprivileged communities, making a lasting impact on Nigeria’s legal and humanitarian landscape.
